Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urgently called on youths in Abuja to reconsider participating in the planned August #EndBadGovernance protest. Wike, a former Rivers State governor, has emphasized the importance of dialogue over demonstrations amidst economic challenges and hardship.
Last week, Wike declared that the FCT was off-limits for protests, which led to strong reactions from youths planning a rally at Eagle Square next month. However, during a town hall meeting with youth leaders in Bwari Area Council, Wike shifted his stance. He urged the youth to express their concerns through conversation rather than protest.
The meeting, attended by area council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and representatives from women and youth groups, highlighted the minister’s call for peaceful dialogue. Wike praised the attendees for their willingness to engage in constructive discussions, reiterating that President Bola Tinubu is committed to advancing the nation despite the current hardships.
In addition, Wike revealed that the President approved the establishment of a youth secretariat within the FCT Administration (FCTA) and plans to set up police stations in each area council. He assured the youth that while current challenges persist, improvements are on the horizon, and urged them to avoid the protest and choose dialogue instead.
