Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has called on England manager Gareth Southgate to make tough decisions ahead of the Three Lions’ final group stage match against Slovenia at Euro 2024. Carragher believes both Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold should be dropped to improve the team’s performance.
England recently secured a 1-1 draw against Denmark, leaving them at the top of Group C with four points. A win or draw against Slovenia on Tuesday will ensure their advancement to the Round of 16.
In his column for The Telegraph, Carragher stated, “Unfortunately, two of the best Premier League footballers – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden – will have to be sacrificed now. The team’s set-up is not getting the best from them, or their team-mates. Introducing Alexander-Arnold into midfield in a major tournament was always a risk. It has not worked.”
Carragher also suggested a new attacking lineup, saying, “I would like to see a 4-3-3 with Saka and Anthony Gordon either side of Kane.”
