Barcelona are reportedly “convinced” they can secure the signature of Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer. The Spain international has emerged as Barcelona’s primary target, with a release clause valued at approximately €55 million in his contract.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is strategizing to meet financial requirements, including finalizing a new kit deal with Nike and securing a replacement investor for Libero.
A club insider disclosed that Barcelona believes they can execute the transfer if they adhere to the 1:1 rule and spread his contract amortization over six years.
To make the deal happen, Barcelona needs to address a financial fair play gap of €25-€30 million, a challenge they view optimistically at present. Another encouraging factor is Williams’ prior contract renewal with a modest release clause, suggesting his openness to a move.
Additionally, Williams’ close relationship with fellow talent Lamine Yamal, highlighted during their impressive performances for Spain at Euro 2024, adds to Barcelona’s appeal.
Despite competition, particularly from Chelsea, who are reportedly prepared to triple his current salary, Barcelona remains confident in their financial strategy to secure Williams’ services.
