Aryna Sabalenka expressed uncertainty about her participation in Wimbledon due to a rare shoulder injury. The Australian Open champion, known for her past successes at the All England Club, recently had to withdraw from a match in Berlin due to this issue.
Sabalenka, 26 years old, admitted she is not fully recovered and is currently preparing to face Emina Bektas in the first round, though she isn’t certain she’ll be able to compete at her best.
Sabalenka noted the uniqueness of her shoulder injury, which specialists have told her is rare among tennis players.
Despite efforts from her team to ensure her readiness for Wimbledon, she acknowledged that her fitness remains a concern, leaving open the possibility of withdrawal from the tournament.
In addition, Sabalenka defended her decision to skip the Paris Olympics following her recent defeat at the French Open. Prioritizing her health and avoiding the transition back to clay courts, she expressed hope for future Olympic participation while focusing on her career longevity.
